Jeff Peterson

Jeff Peterson, President/Chief Executive Officer

Jeff Peterson is the majority owner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Novamet Specialty Products Corporation. He is also a majority owner in Ultra Fine Specialty Products, and Specialty Motors Company, a specialized pre-owned vehicle dealer.

Prior to 2014, Mr. Peterson was the President, General Counsel and a minority owner of Palm Commodities International, Inc, a $100 Million company producing inorganic salts for supply to the metal finishing industry. During his time at Palm Commodities International, Mr. Peterson helped grow the company from approximately $20 million in sales to over $100 million in sales through organic growth and acquisitions. Over the years, Mr. Peterson bought, operated and sold other companies in the metal finishing, transportation, and plastic welding industries.
Prior to entering the world of manufacturing in the year 2000, Mr. Peterson spent a dozen years in the practice of corporate transactional work, employment law and general civil litigation in law firms located in Colorado and Tennessee.

Mr. Peterson holds a BS degree from Union College and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law (1988). His education at Union focused on science, business and accounting. He earned a CPA in 1989 (Nebraska, inactive.)

Mr. Peterson has been very involved in his community, serving currently as a Past Chair of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. He also served as Chairman in 2021, after serving as vice Chair, Economic Development Committee (2018-2020). Mr. Peterson was named Industrialist of the Year by the Chamber for the year 2020. Mr. Peterson currently serves on various Boards, including Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, as a special member of the Strategic Direction board of Cumberland University, and as Chairman of the Board of the 403 Center, a community non-profit, in Madison, Tennessee.

John Johnson, COO/CTO
John L. Johnson, PhD received his PhD in Engineering Science & Mechanics from Penn State University. He also holds a MS Degree in Materials Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and BS Degree in Materials Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Dr. Johnson leads the technical and production teams at Novamet and Ultra Fine Specialty Products. Prior to joining Novamet in 2020, he was Vice President of Technology of Elmet Technologies (Lewiston, ME), where he led a team of engineers to develop new tungsten- and molybdenum-based products, to improve processes for existing product lines, and to utilize lower cost raw materials.

He previously held various positions at ATI Firth Sterling (Huntsville, AL), Kennametal (Latrobe, PA), Alcoa Howmet (Morristown, TN), AMTellect (State College, PA), and Penn State University (University Park, PA) in engineering, research, development, project management, and sales roles, mostly related to powder production and powder injection molding.

Dr. Johnson serves on the Editorial Boards of three metallurgical journals and is the Roadmap Chairman for the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) Technical Board. He co-chaired three conferences on Tungsten, Refractory Metals, and Hardmaterials. He served on the APMI (American Powder Metallurgy Institute) International Board of Directors from 2015 to 2018 and was awarded APMI Fellow status in 2019. He was awarded the MPIF Distinguished Service Award in 2021.

He has over 32 years industry related experience and is an expert in powder manufacturing and powder consolidation methods, especially powder injection molding, extrusion, metal additive manufacturing, and sintering techniques.

John Torbic, Vice President Business Development

John has worked in the coatings, metal filled past, & powder metal markets for 47 years. After completing his undergraduate degree in Business Administration (majors in Accounting & Industrial Economics) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he joined SCM Corporation, Glidden Paint Division’s Accounting Department. In August 1983, he joined the commercial group of SCM Metal Products. He completed his Engineering degree at Cleveland State University.

John progressed in the commercial business through various management levels and after the acquisition of SCM Metal Products by OM Group in 1998, became the Global VP of Sales & Marketing for their Inorganic Salts & Powders Group which was the largest single group in the organization. Within this position, he managed 27 R &D and Sales & Marketing management personnel globally including European offices in Kokkola, Finland & Dusseldorf, Germany as well as Asian offices in Tokyo, Taiwan & Singapore.

In 2003, he joined Designed Alloys as the Director of Business Development and in 2006 joined ATI Tungsten Materials Group as the Director of Sales & Marketing. In 2013, he joined Novamet Specialty Products as the President and became the President of Ultra Fine on the acquisition of this business in 2020. John partially retired in 2023, and now serves as Business Development Manager for Ultra Fine. 

His experience and expertise has led to profitable growth of the businesses with emphasis on technology, value added sales growth, strong asset management, with solid administration and development of personnel.

Neil Bizzaro

Neil Bizzaro, Regional Sales Manager

Neil Bizzaro has a BS in Biology from Ramapo College of New Jersey and graduated in 1989. He started with Novamet in February 1989 as a Quality  Control Lab Technician. In 1990, he was promoted to Customer Service/Inside Sales and again in 1998 to Regional Sales Manager for the US, Quebec, Canada, Japan & Korea markets.

Neil enjoys shooting guns, raising reptiles, and watching sports. He has been married 31 years and has one daughter and two granddaughters.

Matt Groo

Matt Groo, Regional Sales Manager

Matt Groo has a BA of Chemical Engineering and a Minor in Chemistry from Widener University. He is currently a Regional Sales Manager for both Novamet Specialty Products Corporation and Ultra Fine Specialty Products.

He previously worked as a Process Engineer, Plant Engineer and Production Supervisor for Fidelity Chemical Products.

He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling, reading and staying healthy and active. His interests include walking, jogging, camping, hiking and biking.

Parag Bedekar

Parag Bedekar, General Manager

Parag holds a Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and brings with him an impressive career spanning nearly three decades in the materials science and metallurgy industries. His journey started at Hitachi Metals Ltd. (now Proterial), where he spent 20 years working on a variety of global technical projects, including the development of a cutting-edge water-based spray drying system. His leadership and technical expertise helped shape the success of SinterMet, LLC, a subsidiary of Hitachi Metals at the time.

After two decades with Hitachi Metals, Parag took the leap into entrepreneurship, leading Hydro Carbide Tool Company as its President. During his 8-year tenure, he oversaw the manufacturing of Tungsten Carbide wear parts and preforms, and worked with an impressive array of alloy systems, ceramics, and composites for industrial applications. His deep technical knowledge, combined with a global perspective from his extensive travel and customer support efforts, make him a perfect fit for the Ultra Fine team.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Parag is also an avid mountaineer, woodworker, and model railroader. He enjoys spending time with his family—his wife, Mithila, and their two children, Arnav and Avani—near Pittsburgh, PA.

Austin Peterson, Regional Sales Representative

Austin Peterson holds a MS degree in Engineering Management and a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He is a minority owner at Specialty Motors Company, a specialized car dealership in Lebanon.

Prior to working at Novamet, Austin worked at Volkswagen and Tesla in their engineering departments. He worked on new model development for the new VW Passat, and process engineering for the Tesla Model 3.

Austin loves anything automotive related, and enjoys HPDE, autocross, and drag racing in his spare time.

Benjamin Walton

Benjamin Walton, Regional Sales Representative

Benjamin graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to joining Novamet and Ultra Fine Specialty Products, he worked at AMI Metals as an Aerospace Machining and Materials Sale Representative and at the University of Alabama as Engineering Team Lead.

He enjoys spending time volunteering, doing outdoor activities and playing with his German Shepherd.

Charles Ashdown, Director of Technology

Charlie received his B.A.Sc. in Co-op Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and his Ph.D. in Metallurgy from M.I.T. Prior to his position as Director of Technology for Ultra Fine Specialty Products, he worked as the Director of Technology for Carpenter Powder Products. He co-founded Ultra Fine Powder Technology, making fine powder for MIM by gas atomization, designing equipment and developing the process.

Charlie enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, yoga, biking, walking and kayaking.

Mary Anne Theroux

Mary Anne Theroux, Director of Administration

Mary Anne is currently the Director of Administration for Ultra Fine Specialty Products and has a vast and varied knowledge of the Ultra Fine business. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Psychology from the University of Rhode Island.

She joined Ultra Fine Powder Technology in November 1990 as Office Manager and reported to the CFO. She was promoted to Director of Administration, Finance and Marketing Support in 1995 and reported directly to the CEO. She handled the financial reporting to the CEO and Board of Directors, managed all the cash-flow resources and administrative functions throughout the organization including HR and was the direct point of contact for all customer-related issues.

She was inducted into the Carpenter Hall of Leaders in 2018.

Andrew Atwood, Controller

Andrew Atwood has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Master of Business Administration from Tennessee Technological University. He has been with Novamet for the last three years.

He served seven years in the Air National Guard working as an Operations Intelligence Analyst and worked 2.5 years in the insurance industry in Accounting at Unum.

Andrew enjoys mountain biking, tennis, drumming, and racing cars.

Dennis Gottilla, Assistant Controller

As CFO, Mr. Gottilla was responsible for all accounting, payroll, purchasing and H.R. programs Novamet and Ultra Fine have in place through his partial retirement in May, 2023. He now continues in a part-time role, lending his considerable talent and experience to the Controller, continuing with responsibilities for purchasing critical raw materials and various financial reporting.

Dennis has been with Novamet from 1998 to the present time. Prior to 1998, he was a Finance Manager for Inco/Vale Ltd. (formerly the parent company of Novamet) for 23 years in the New York headquarters office. His major responsibilities as Finance Manager for Inco/Vale Ltd. included delivering accurate and timely financial statements, directing all financial functions and the management of accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets.

Prior to his 47-year career with Novamet/Inco-Vale, he was an Accountant working for CPC International Inc. (now Unilever). In that role, he was responsible for the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, preparation of income, balance sheet reports and other financial reports.

He received his MBA, Accounting and Finance and his Bachelor of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Krista DiGiacomo, Manager, HR/Administrative Services

Krista DiGiacomo received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and a Graduate of Human Management from the University of Phoenix. She also received her Social Media Marketing Professional Certificate and is a Blueprint Certified Digital Marketing Associate.

Krista is currently the Manager, HR and Administrative Services for Novamet Specialty Products Corporation. She previously worked in Human Resources / Office Manager for SERVPRO and was the Development Administrator for Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.
She is an avid reader and enjoys cooking/baking, spending time with her grandchildren, playing with her dog, camping, traveling, and meditating.

Jeff Nogler, Plant Manager

Jeff has been an integral part of the company for 13 years. He worked for Carpenter Powder Products since 2011, before joining Ultra Fine in July 2020. He started out in the atomization department, but over the years learned the other departments as well, including furnace building, classification, and packaging.

Jeff enjoys fishing, bowling and golf on his spare time.

Christopher Da Fonseca, Quality Manager / Lab Manager

Chris received his B.S. Biology from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and has pursued numerous continuing education courses, including a phlebotomy certification, the MPIF Basic PM short course, and various certifications in ISO 9001 and AS9100 through Bureau Veritas and Plexus International. Additionally, he is trained as an implementor for NADCAP accreditation, underscoring his commitment to maintaining the highest industry standard and a member of APMI International.

Prior to joining Ultra Fine, Chris honed his expertise through past roles as Metallurgical Lab Technician at Leach Garner, Quality Specialist at Carpenter Powder Products, and R&D Lab Technician at Technic Inc.

Chris enjoys reading, playing video games, flag football and refurbishing antique tools with his 3D printer.

Josh Capron

Josh Capron, Plant Engineer

Josh enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 2001 and was stationed at MCAS Miramar, CA. He was deployed to Kuwait and served on the USS Carl Vinson. He received his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. Before joining Ultra Fine in 2020 as Plant Engineer, he worked at Carpenter Powder Products as an engineer.

He has two children (Celilia and Wyatt) with his wife Julie. Josh plays on a few volleyball leagues, both beach and indoor.
